This wonderful, detached cottage is situated on the outskirts of Arnside in Cumbria, and can sleep twelve people in six bedrooms.
Thornfield is a charming, detached cottage, situated on the outskirts of the Cumbrian village of Arnside. The cottage is set over four floors and can sleep twelve people in a double and a zip/link twin room on the lower ground floor, a super king-size double room on the first floor offering access to a room with a single day bed in the attic, a twin room which can be made into a super king-size bedroom on request, and a family room containing a double and single bed. There is a family bathroom and a shower room on both the ground and lower ground floors. There is a well-equipped kitchen with a dining area, open fire, and doors to the patio, and a sitting room with a woodburning stove. Outside, enjoy use of lawned gardens, a decked patio with furniture, and extensive grounds with a summer house. There is also off road parking for four cars. Thornfield is a wonderful base for exploring Cumbria and the Lake District, with something to do for all the family.

Gas oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer with ice-maker, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, WiFi, selection of books, games and toys. Fuel, power and starter pack for stove and fire inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Travel cot and highchair. Off road parking for 4 cars. Lockable bike storage. Lawned gardens, decked patio with furniture, BBQ and chimenea, and access to extensive grounds with summerhouse. One well-behaved dog welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop 8 mins walk, pub 1 mile. Note: Twins can be super king-size doubles by arrangement with owner, at least 1 week in advance. Note: Attic bedroom accessed through super king-size double, can also be used as a play room. |

And of course there are the lakes themselves: glorious Windermere, pretty Derwent Water and beautiful Ullswater are just some of the highlights of a holiday in this area.
For the historically minded, Cumbria offers a wealth of Celtic monuments, Roman remains, stately homes and ruined abbeys. Carlisle still has some of its ancient walls standing, as well as a Norman castle, and the western part of Hadrian’s Wall is nearby. Other places of interest include Penrith, with its castle and remarkably unchanged market square; Keswick, which was once the centre of pencil manufacturing; the busy market town of Kendal and Cockermouth, Wordsworth’s birthplace.
